2006 Mine Rescue Recap

Sponsored by North American Coal Corp.

This year we had eight teams: BHP Billiton-San Juan, The Coteau Properties, Falkirk Mining Company, PPL Montana, Rio Tinto Energy America - MERT Team, Texas Westmoreland, Waste Isolation Power Plant (WIPP), and Western Energy. Our evaluators were: Terry Davis, Brad Holligan, and Nancy Sheffield. Scott Aberle and Ray Moots trained as evaluators this year. William Brown was the team photographer and Donna Jones was support staff for David and Cheryl Evans, Co-chairs for Mine Rescue.

Saturday morning all of the teams participated in the Short Course. This year's theme was Incident Management. The afternoon found all of the teams outside for the Mine Rescue Rodeo, a two-year old event that mixes the team members. They then participate in various skill tasks to see how they do with unfamiliar team support members.

Individual evaluations were also held and each member was assessed on his/her skills.

Each rescue participant received a pin and a certificate. Each team received a trophy.

A sincere thank you was offered to the office, evaluators, the teams and their families, the victims, the Mine Managers and everyone who helped make this program successful.

North American Coal was given a plaque for their continued support of the Mine Rescue Program. Clark Moseley accepted on behalf of NAC.
