Mine Safety
The Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute promotes safety by presenting an annual Mine Rescue Evaluation program at the annual conference each year. This is an important part of the education mission of RMCMI. During the 4-day evaluation, approximately 100 mine rescue participants engage in various simulated rescue scenarios. Teams are evaluated based upon the skill of their team. It is an excellent opportunity to learn rescue and safety from professional evaluators as well as other teams. The purpose of the mine rescue evaluation program is to provide an opportunity for mine rescue teams to learn new skills and improve their existing ones in a non-competitive environment.
The 20th Annual Mine Rescue Evaluation will be during the 107th Annual Meeting & Conference in Keystone, Colorado. David Evans, Westmoreland Coal Company, and Cheryl Evans, EMR Health and Safety, co-chair the event.
Please contact the RMCMI office at 303/948-3300 for additional information and registration.
About the Mine Safety Awards
Underground and surface mines participate for this prestigious safety awards. Safety awards are presented yearly to both a surface and an underground mine with the lowest reportable rate of incidents. The number of incidents are taken from MSHA reportable accidents. Additionally, this year we have included a contractor safety award, which will recognize contractors for their safety performance. This award requires nominations from mine operators, or we accept self-nominations by contractors. Click here to download the Contractor Safety Award Application
Jim Luther, BHP Billiton, and RMCMI Safety Committee Chair, will present the 14th annual awards for the safest mines and contractors in the eight-member state region.
