RMCMI Regional Meeting Recaps

Thursday afternoon 6 people participated in a tour of the San Juan Power Plant. Many thanks to Robert Flegal, Energy Coal Marketing Manager-BHP Billiton, for conducting the tour and transportation. We always appreciate the opportunity to see first-hand an operation that is using the most current technology in their operations.

The 2010-2011 Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute year officially ended with the Annual Meeting and Convention in Keystone, Colorado this past June.

The 22nd Annual RMCMI Utah/Colorado Regional Meeting began on Thursday with 27 people attending a Short Course on Maintenance Planning and Scheduling by Doc Palmer, Richard Palmer and Associates, at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Price, Utah. This short course was arranged by Phil Patton, Arch Coal, Inc.

Thursday afternoon 15 people participated in mine tours at the BHP Billiton San Juan underground mine and the LaPlata Reclamation site. Everyone attending was very excited about the amount of information provided and the opportunity to see a long wall machine in action. The best feedback we got from attendees was they were most impressed with the pride that BHP Billiton employees show in their mines and what they do there.

The Twentieth Annual Tri-StateMeeting was held in Sheridan, WY on September 16-17.

On the evening of Thursday, May 20, the twenty-first annual Colorado-Utah Banquet was held with 89 registered and 75 attending the Banquet.

On Thursday afternoon, approximately 19 participants took advantage of mine tours, either at BHPNavajo Surface Mineor San Juan Underground Mine.

Record-high world oil prices have prompted renewed interest in producing liquid fuels from coal.
